The cooperative game Split Fiction from Swedish studio Hazelight Studios will receive a film adaptation, Variety reports, citing its own sources.

According to sources at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, the film will be produced by media company Story Kitchen, led by the team that also worked on the film adaptation of It Takes Two, which is currently in development at Amazon.

Story Kitchen is assembling a team and is looking for a cast, writers and a director. Sources also report that offers for the rights continue to come in from many of Hollywood's top studios.

Hazelight Studios began work on Split Fiction immediately after the release of the incredibly successful It Takes Two, which won the award for Best Game at The Game Awards in 2021.

Split Fiction tells the story of Mio and Zoe, two completely different writers: one writes science fiction, the other fantasy. After being hooked up to a machine designed to steal their creative ideas, they find themselves trapped in their own stories. They must rely on each other to escape with their memories intact and overcome numerous challenges as they jump between sci-fi and fantasy worlds.

Before the release, some doubted whether the studio would be able to continue the hit parade and maintain the level set by previous games. However, one million copies sold in two days, and then two million in a week, indicate that the developers have succeeded. The game also received a high rating of 9.5 out of 10 in the review by Mezha.
